Wanted List

I used to post a brief list of sneakers I was still looking for in this section, but I've since given up on them. While I haven't given up on sneakers entirely, I no longer purchase any products derived from animals. If you want to know why, click here or, better yet, read The Food Revolution or Thanking the Monkey - both are highly accessible and neither one is preachy.

    Reply from Method Man:

I saw the posts in question and honestly they left the staff no choice but to impose a permanent ban. They were simply flagrant and everyone I'm aware of who's posted anything similar has been banned as well. We'd love for the rules to be upheld perfectly, but ultimately any time you violate them you risk your membership and that's what happened here. I'm glad you understand the policy and I'm sure I'll see you around the board again after you've served your time. Peace.

I know I'm banned and all.. I take responsibility for that... but When can I come back to the general population Meth? *ducks for cover*

    Reply from Method Man:

Unfortunately, it seems you went way over the line and managed to pick up a permanent ban, so there's no way you can sit out for anything less than the maximum suspension of 1 month - and then you'd have to create a new account. The good news is that if you can go 12 months without picking up a single warning, I can reinstate your original account. Sound fair?

    Peace.

I'm considering becoming vegetarian after reading some of the posts and opening my eyes to what happens with regards to some food. I was just wondering what your typical diet consists of? It will be hard trying to do this but i'm willing to try. Thanks.

    11/06/09

    Reply from Method Man:

I think it's wonderful that you're interested in eliminating meat from your diet. Meat has always struck me as unethical, but more and more research has revealed that meat isn't just murder - it's suicide. Plant based diets reduce all sorts of health risks, from heart disease to cancer. It's just unfortunate that even those of us who abstain from and oppose meat still bear the epidemiological risks associated with factory farming - like swine flu.

As a vegan, I don't purchase or consume any animal products. So, unlike most vegetarians, I don't consume eggs or dairy products, wear leather/wool/etc. It's challenging, but as a result you learn exactly what goes into your body and into the products you use every day. Most people don't realize that even the average toothpaste and deodorant contains animal-derived ingredients, for example.I'm always looking to optimize my diet and there's really no "one size fits all" solution. I work with my trainers to select supplements and plan my diet to suit my performance needs and I would suggest consulting a professional before making any dramatic changes. Going vegan can be one of the best health decisions a person can make - but only if the diet is properly planned. As a general principle, you'll want to adjust your inputs for your body size and activity level. You wouldn't expect a 6'6", 220 pound professional athlete to share the same diet as a 5'9", 125 pound college student, after all. Though consulting with a nutritionist or trainer is ideal, you can get a pretty good idea of a healthy caloric intake by using the calculator available here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calorie-calculator/NU00598

As far as your daily protein intake is concerned, there are differing opinions out there and I think it really comes down to your fitness goals. Many people feel that protein is overrated, and if you're just looking to maintain your current mass or lose weight I'd be inclined to agree. If you're a serious athlete looking to add lean mass as part of a strength training program, though, I think 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight is still a good rule of thumb, and it's certainly attainable through a vegan diet. You may wish to consider flax and hemp seed supplements (which also provide omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids), seitan, lentils, tofu, quinoa, and other sources for protein. People often wonder how to get calcium without milk thanks to dairy industry marketing campaigns. I'd be happy to talk more about the health hazards and ethical issues related to dairy products - but as far as diet is concerned, just know that you can get more calcium from collard greens than you can from cow's milk, and it's far healthier for you. Designing a new diet may seem complicated. Fortunately, there are a ton of resources out there and I'd be happy to share some that have helped me improve my diet as a vegan athlete.

You'll find plenty of vegan recipes online and some websites offer sample meal plans to get you started, like this one: http://living-vegan.blogspot.com/2007/02/vegan-sample-meal-plans.html You'll also want to be certain you avoid the pitfalls of poorly planned vegan diets: http://www.vegsoc.org/info/vegan-nutrition.html

I hope that helps and I wish you all the best in your transition! If you do decide to follow through, please let me know how it goes!

    Peace.

Can I ask why I was banned? As far as I know, I have done nothing to warrant such an action. Thanks.

    10/07/09

    Reply from Method Man:

You were banned less than a month ago under the name "Korean Dave." We're not running a revolving door system here. If we ban someone from the board, we're not going to let them walk right back in wearing a fake mustache and pretend they're a completely different person. You'll need to wait at least another month before you're given another opportunity to post to our forums.

    Peace.

Is Kobe better then Jordan? (IYO)

    10/06/09

    Reply from Method Man:

You should ask Nelson C that question, he can go on about this for days. Honestly, I don't think it's even close - and I doubt you'd find many people over the age of 21 who aren't Lakers fans willing to argue that Kobe's anywhere near Mike's level. Kobe's a little more accurate from 3 point range than Jordan, but in every other meaningful category Jordan kills him. I think Kobe's defense is vastly overrated due in large part to the unwarranted Jordan comparisons. MJ was arguably the best defensive 2 guard in the league for most of his career. He's simply the total package: one of the most athletically gifted players of all time, his knowledge of the game was unsurpassed, and he's easily among the most dedicated, focused, and determined athletes in the history of sport. His comeback with the Wizards actually increased my appreciation for him - because you could see how he was still able to be among the game's best players even after his explosiveness faded. He lost his athletic edge over other players, yet his mental edge remained as sharp as ever. I doubt we'll ever see another NBA player compete at that level at the age of 39-40. He played in what I consider the greatest era of professional basketball to date and stood without peer.

I may not wear the shoes these days, but I'll always be a Michael Jordan fan.

Just coming by to say the donating this site does to charities and even involving members to help decide who gets the donation is phenomenal. I'm not with any particular charity but I donate here and there to different charity's on a monthly basis. It feels good to know that I'm supporting a site that gives back. thanks again

Hey method man i was wondering why I'm banned on this account.I was previously banned on my other sn: Perisanballa. whats the deal?

    09/19/09

    Reply from Method Man:

I think you just answered your own question. You were previously banned under another account and evidently when your current account was reviewed a staff member determined that they weren't eager to take another chance on you. Perhaps next month.

    Peace.

*checks calendar* 9/12/09 - am I a free man? can I get unbanned?

    09/12/09

    Reply from Method Man:

I've reinstated the account - but be sure you follow the rules at all times and ask a staff member prior to posting anything you're not 100% sure about. You don't want to lose your account again after waiting a year to get it back.

    Peace.
